Latest Update (18th September 2011)
WHAG and the residents group coordinating the bid to secure a plot of green belt land off Oughtonhead Lane cannot stress how much we have been struck by everyone's support and generosity. It didn't take many people grouping together to come really close to making a difference to the local world we live in. For more details read this article in The Comet - headline news no less!
Although frustrated in our efforts to preserve this land in perpetuity, we will fight any future planning proposals made by developers.
On a wider note, we are waiting for North Herts District Council to revise their Core Strategy document and Land Allocation lists following the Government's decision to let district councils have more say in their housing growth targets. Recent headlines in the national press suggest there may be a relaxation of rules for building on green belt. Needless to say, WHAG full opposes this and will be ready to rigorously defend our local beautiful countryside and quality of life should the need arise.
Once again, we thank you for your continuing support in our combined efforts to preserve Hitchin's green belt.
